"We had to have the yacht party indoors, because we didn’t know anyone with a boat yet. But everyone came in stripes and docksiders, or Cousteau style with wetsuits and knit caps. We played Captain and Tennille and the Beach Boys and disco, drank dark rum cocktails with pineapple when we crossed the equator. We got Santa Claus to play Poseidon, who decided our seaworthiness, welcoming us into his kingdom of Neptune, the coral and the gardens, the upside down feeling of floating, the pearl in the oyster, the breathing with gills."
